"Why Are You Lying To Me?" Honesty in Improv

This workshop will focus on what it means to be genuine and true to yourself and your scenes as an improvisor. You will learn what the core of the scene is, and what is the decoration. You will learn to access your true feelings in a scene, while still playing a character. You will learn to get a laugh with a single glance. The audience can tell when you are lying, and when you are truly discovering and reacting on stage. We will inspect honesty from many angles, including: playing to the top of your intelligence, inspiration vs obligation, acting with your whole self, wearing your characters like a straw hat, acknowledging the shared reality of the audience and performers, and of course getting out of your head and learning to be present on stage. After this workshop you will feel lighter, more relaxed, and more powerful on stage. (Note: we will not be trauma farming in this workshop, it will be fun the entire time.) This workshop caps at 8 people to allow for maximum participation per student. Instructor: Kelly Shuda Kelly Shuda is an improvisor, composer, and music director who worked at The Second City for over a decade. Performing 400 shows a year in Chicago, Kelly has written and improvised countless hours of comedic musical theatre, and remains in demand because of their ability to connect quickly and directly with the audience. Kelly is also the creator, director, and accompanist of OPERA PUNKS, and currently works as a musician and game designer at Jackbox Games. Kelly currently lives in Los Angeles, CA.
